What type of QB are you betting on?
It’s important in this ever-changing free-agent world we live in, where receivers change teams faster than they change their underwear, to not only stay up on the football betting winning percentage of a team’s quarterback, and not only their statistical history, but also their position style.
What type of QB are they? Don’t think that matters? Think again.
Let’s start off with the Kyle Orton’s of the world – the team “managers.” This is probably the most degrading tag a coach or media outlet can put on a player. It means nobody even has enough confidence in you to let you fail. Your job is just to “manager” the offense (i.e. hand off to the RB, toss a few shorts to the TE and maybe spike the ball once or twice a game). Don’t worry about trying to win the game, we know that’s beyond your skills. We’ll let the defense take care of that. Yeah, maybe it worked for the Bears, but it leads to deceiving stats. Orton may have won 75% of his games, but if you bet on his team today to win 75% of their games, you’ll end up in the poor house.
How about the high-octane, sharpshooter? This guy can hit a dime from a mile away. He’s all about precision. Think Bulger, or better yet, Drew Brees, as the top examples of players still out there today. If the team you’re looking at betting on is bringing in a top wideout who not only can hit his mark, but can adjust and use his athletic prowess to ward off any would-be cornerback thieves, that’s a match made in gambler’s heaven (and fantasy). When Colston is healthy, that’s the relationship I’m talking about. Just don’t count on Colston being 100% every game, but that’s a different article.
One more, the loose canon. Hail Mary’s like they’re going out of style. Double coverage? No problem. This QB can tend to overestimate the talent of his WR crop, also. Not necessarily optimistic thinking, just poor assessment on his part most of the time. But if you’re betting the over, these guys are your buddy. One nfl odds connection and it busts open the game. The losing team has to start throwing to catch up if we’re in the second half…defenses get int’s returned for Tds, and the score starts to balloon. Gotta love that domino effect. Think Cutler, Warner.
