Arena Soccer
Arena soccer, or indoor football as it commonly known to those in the UK, is a game that is practically the same as normal soccer but played on a much smaller pitch, usually with fewer players and has walls surrounding it rather than touch lines. Closely resembling a hockey pitch, the arena soccer pitch is usually an indoor one with astro-turf but can be covered in other things as well.
Indoor football in the UK is very much a boy’s game. There are mini leagues dedicated to it usually with teams from local public houses and is enjoyable to both watch and play. Occasionally the games take up less time than an average soccer game with many five a side or six a side games only playing on twenty minutes per half rather than 45.
Travelling across the water, arena soccer poker scroll has become a firm favorite in both Canada and also the United States with many mini leagues now available for professional footballers and amateur footballers alike. Of late, the game has travelled some more, now becoming increasingly popular within Mexico and the indoor arena soccer games are usually played outside, perhaps due to the nice weather!
There are several governing bodies of arena soccer and the rules will differ slightly within each one. In the UK, the games are usually 40 minutes long but crossing the water the games can usually be played as quarters with 15 minutes in each or for the amateurs, 25 minutes and halves rather than quarters. Again, there are other differences between UK indoor football and US arena soccer – there are more players in the US. Five a side is very popular in the UK but in the US, it tends to be six per team with one of those being the all important goal keeper!
There are many benefits of arena soccer and these ensure almost constant game play with no stoppage for things such as throw ins as the ball simply hits the boundary walls and comes back into play rather than going over the line and making play restart so to speak. Of course if the ball touches the roof of the arena or goes over the walls, usual stoppage time occurs and usually, there will be no offside rule to stop play even further.
The same kind of contact rules occur in arena soccer as it does with usual soccer games. Sliding tackles are usually banned within arena soccer leagues especially on those with “fake” grass as some rather painful injuries can arise! Also, because the pitch is generally much smaller than that of outdoor soccer pitches, there is less room to maneuver in such risky tackles and are therefore best avoided.
There are many benefits to playing arena soccer as well as the ones mentioned already. It gives a chance for smaller teams to compete and generally have a good time and without the pressure of having to run around for a full ninety minutes. It also means the game play is very exciting as there is less play space and more chances for a good goal!
Changing Soccer Fashions
To very devoted fans of a particular sport, said sport is not just a matter of special events that one sits down to watch a few times per year. Rather, the sport can almost become a complete lifestyle, even if one is not actually a member of a major professional team. Adopting sports-inspired fashion is one way to bring your passion for your favorite sport into everyday life. This article cites some of the highlights of soccer fashion over the past few decades.
We can trace the beginnings of “modern” soccer fashion to 19th-century Great Britain. During this time, team members of Full Tilt Poker did not wear uniforms as they do today. Rather, small articles of clothing like caps or scarves in particular colors were worn so that spectators could easily distinguish one team from the other.
The soccer uniform as we know it was “born” during the early part of the 20th century, when players started wearing matching shorts and socks. However, they were more likely to wear button-down shirts instead of the light jerseys we know today. This was not so bad in cooler climates, but made life quite difficult for soccer devotees in warmer parts of the world.
As the decades passed, the evolving trend in soccer uniforms can be described in the following words: lighter, smaller, tighter, and cooler. The loose, bulky PokerStars shorts of early decades gave way to smaller, more form-fitting versions. The fabric itself began to change. Whereas cotton was once the norm, players now wear polyester or cotton blends.
The commercialized status of soccer fashion truly took off in the 1970’s. Starting at that time, fans could buy jerseys just like the ones their favorite players wore. It was also easier to find goods and souvenirs with the logos of famous teams on them.
However, there is also a dark side to soccer-related fashion. In the United Kingdom, the wearing of team colors or very short hair was and is sometimes associated with hooliganism. Thus, many of the real hooligans counteracted this perception (and evaded police attention) by deliberately adopting either ordinary or designer clothes.
Of course, any article about soccer fashion is more or less honor-bound to mention David Beckham. This soccer star is not only known for his skills, but for his marriage to Posh Spice, his modeling/endorsement deals, and—of course—his fashion. Mr. Beckham is widely credited with making it more acceptable for men to wear complicated hairstyles, sarongs, and nail polish. (He famously wore pink polish, instead of the more “manly” rock-star black.) On the one hand, we might consider Beckham, who has since been spoted playing poker online, to be the harbinger of more flexible ideas of masculinity and coolness. On the other hand, perhaps he is only reinforcing the modern commodification of identity—in this case, male identity in particular. You can buy subversiveness in the form of hair gel and pink polish.
Soccer fashion continues to change and develop both technologically and culturally. As time passes, new ways are invented to keep players cooler and more comfortable during exhausting games. New archetypes and icons also rise and fade away. It will be interesting to see what soccer fans will be wearing years from now.
Betting the Over Under in Soccer Matches
While some casual soccer fans may claim that soccer matches are boring and no one ever scores, others appreciate the game of soccer for what it is. Soccer teams move the ball around in hopes of finding and exploiting a hole in the opposing team’s defense. Sometimes, teams like the FullTiltPoker.net united team are successful in shredding the defense and the score lines are wild, while other times the teams engage in a defensive battle, unable to break through the other side’s proverbial brick wall.
Whether the soccer match is a high scoring affair or ends in a scoreless draw, the true soccer fan can really appreciate the action with or without a ton of goals. One way of betting on soccer matches is betting on the over-under of the soccer game. When you bet a soccer over-under line, one is betting on the total number of goals scored in the match. An over-under bet does not care which team scores or what side wins. The over-under only concerns itself with the total goals scored in the underlying soccer match.
To wager on the total goals scored in a soccer game, one must set up a sports betting account at an Internet sports betting site. When selecting an Internet sports betting site to bet on soccer matches, it is important to choose quality. Your best bet is to set up an Internet betting account at Poker Stars with a well-known and reputable sports betting site. Be sure that the Internet betting site accepts bettors from your country and takes a method of deposit that you have available to you. Most Internet soccer betting sites take a variety of credit and debit cards and also allow bettors to deposit using an e-wallet account, personal checks, and bank wire transfers.
Upon setting up a betting account with a trusted Internet betting site, simply find the match in which you wish to bet. The matches can be found in the Internet soccer betting lines that the sports book provides. A sample over-under betting line for a soccer match looks like the following:
Portugal – Over 2.5 (-125)
Brazil – Under 2.5 (-111)
In this sample soccer betting line, two powerful soccer teams are set to do battle on the football pitch. A soccer bettor can wager on the match accumulating over 2.5 goals or under 2.5 goals. The negative numbers listed after each total reflect the amount that can be won on a winning $100 bet. This means that if the pkr soccer match goal count is less than 2.5 goals, those who bet the under will be paid $111 for every $100 bet. Alternatively, if the total goals scored are greater than 2.5 goals, the over pays $125 for every $100 wagered.
Soccer Betting
Soccer betting is quite popular in the UK, as well as in Europe. Betting on soccer, as well as other sports is much more commonplace in European countries, as the laws on sports betting are far more relaxed than those in the US. In fact, casinos and sports betting sites sponsor many sports teams. For example, Mansion Poker sponsors Tottenham’s football team, while Manchester United have signed a big sponsorship deal with bin. All of these deals are geared towards converting fans of football into bettors on the sport.
Most of the soccer club websites in the English Premier League are very bettor friendly for soccer betting. In fact, many of them either link directly to soccer betting sites or list the odds of a team winning right on their website. The odds are provided by an outside soccer betting site, of course.
Additionally, many soccer team websites list the odds and payouts of their superstars scoring a goal right on their site. For example, in the teaser or match preview on Manchester United’s official website, it is common to see the payout on a player such as Wayne Rooney scoring a goal, parlayed with a United victory.
Another new trend is for soccer betting sites to collaborate with soccer clubs. For example, Paddy Power is partnered with Arsenal, bwin with Manchester United, 188BET partners with Chelsea, while SportingBet has partnered with the Wolverhampton Wolves. Such partnerships drives revenue for the respective football clubs and gives the soccer betting fan base a sense of loyalty when betting on soccer.
Each of these soccer betting sites provides a special promotion or bonus exclusively for their fans. Bwin offers the fans of Manchester United a free twenty-five pound bet when opening a soccer betting account with bwin. SportingBet gives fans of the Wolves a free twenty-five pound bet, with up to one hundred seventy-five more pounds in free bets up for grabs for future bets.
It is reasonable to conclude that betting is a large part of the culture in Europe and England, especially when it comes to betting on soccer odds. With more and more football clubs entering into strategic partnerships with online soccer betting services, betting on soccer matches is becoming more and more popular. Soccer betting sites are leveraging the number of fans each soccer club commands, and relying on the diehard supporter’s brand loyalty.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are third in the NFC East right now with a 4-2 record. The NFC East is one of the toughest, if not the toughest division in the NFL. With the new billion dollar stadium in Dallas this year the organization and fans were expecting big things from the team. Even though the Cowboys hold a 4-2 record after week 7 they aren’t looking good for a playoff spot right now. It would definitely be a disappointment if the Cowboys don’t make the playoffs this year, but this might become reality soon.
The biggest football betting win of the season so far for the Cowboys came last week against the Falcons. The Cowboys handled the Falcons and put on a good show for their home crowd by scoring 37 points. In previous weeks the Cowboys have beaten the teams they should have beaten, but have loss to the teams that they’re battling with. In the first five weeks of the season Dallas beat the Buccaneers, Panthers and Kansas City and lost to the Giants and Broncos.
Just like other years the Cowboys have come out firing on the offensive side of the ball. The team is ranked 10th best in the league with 26.5 points per game and 2nd in the league for total offensive yards per game with an average of 419.3. The rushing game has done exceptionally well in Dallas this season. The team is ranked 4th best in the league with an average of 153.3 rush yards per game.
Tony Romo is completing just over 60% of his passes on the season and has a 94.7 QB rating. Romo has only thrown 9TD’s on the season which isn’t really that great, but on the plus side he has only thrown 4INT’s. The Cowboys have had three RB’s logging the load this season on the offence. Marion Barber leads the way rushing with 344 yards and 3TD’s. Tashard Choice and Felix Jones both have run the ball for over 200 yards on the season as well. With three RB’s with over 200 yards apiece in 6 games it’s kind of hard to believe that Dallas has a 4-2 record.
The defense for the most part has been playing well enough to get the job done minus one game. The game against the Giants the defence gave up 33 points and lost the game 33-31 which was a big loss. Apart from that game the defence has been playing great. They’re only allowing 19.8 points per game which is 14th best in the league. They are in the back of the pack when it comes to yards given up per game and passing yards, but they have managed to keep the opposition out of the endzone for the most part.
The Cowboys season is far from over and although they are in a very tough division anything can happen. The Eagles have shown signs of struggling lately and the Giants have lost their past two games. If Dallas can string together some wins over the next month they might be in a good position to win the division.
Burning Questions in Manchester Premiership Prepares for Kickoff
With the start of the 2009-2010 Premiership nearing kickoff, there are several burning questions as to how the League shall play out this season – specifically involving the two Manchester sides.
Will Manchester City Contend for the League Crown?
Manchester City have gone on a soccer betting spending spree during the summer transfer season. They have spent to improve their side up top with the signing of Carlos Tevez, the potent striker who was let go by cross-town rivals Manchester United. Additionally, there is speculation that City has made a record offer to aging Chelsea Captain John Terry. That’s not to say Terry’s age dubs him incapable of playing quality football, however at 29 years of age, it is difficult to justify paying such a commanding salary.
While City have embarked on quite a spending frenzy this off-season, it may well prove to be money well spent and it is realistic to envision City contending for the league crown.
Will United Survive the Departure of #7?
For the third time in a decade, Real Madrid have raided the Manchester United camp of a top United player. Cristiano Ronaldo transferred out to extend his services to Real Madrid in exchange for a record transfer fee of 80 million pounds. Each time United lost a key talent to Real, they bounced back even stronger, just as they did when they lost another #7 – David Beckham to the hands of Real. Becks was replaced by wonder kid Ronaldo, who strengthened the side. Sharpshooter Ruud Van Nistlerooy left town heading for Real, and United filled the void bringing on Tevez (now at City) and Berbetov.
To compensate for the loss of Ronaldo, Sir Alex went out and grabbed another young talent in international standout Antonio Valencia. In perhaps the steal of the century, Michael Owen was signed via free transfer. Owen is a striker with deadly precision in his strikes. He is hungry and on a mission to redeem his career. Having signed with League Champion United, Owen will have the opportunity to recapture his top form. From the looks of his preseason play in Asia, Owen appears fit, focused, and on target.
In addition to the new signings, United can respect a return to action of Owen Hargreaves, which is certain to fill a void in the Manchester United Midfield. Hargreaves missed the majority of the season due to injury and is looking to reclaim a key roll in the midfield.
In the end, while City will certainly contend for a League Crown with a much improved (albeit bought) side, United are the clear favorites to repeat yet again as League Champion. I think United and City finish 1 and 2 respectively.
Who Will be the Leading Goal Scorer in England?
With this year’s top scorer transferred out of the Premiership, former Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo (31 goals) has left the barn door wide open for another top goal scorer. When the upcoming English Premiership season comes to an end next May, who will be the leading goal scorer?
There has been a lot of shuffling in sides in this busy transfer season. In addition to Ronaldo departing England, Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has relocated to Manchester City. Despite being second in goals scored last season, Adebayor goes off at five to one odds to be the leading scorer in the Premiership. Tied for second best last season with Emmanuel was the deadly striker from Liverpool Fernando Torres, who is even in odds to lead in goals scored.
In the field of dreams, Wayne Rooney is expected to produce more in Ronaldo’s absence is given 16 to five odds. Newly signed Michael Owen, who looks sharp and rejuvenated in preseason is seven to two for the top goal scorer honors. Another United standout expected to step up productivity, Dinitar Berbatov goes off at six to one odds. Heading over to Stamford Bridge, Didier Drogba is eleven to five to be the league’s leading scorer, while Nicolas Anelka sports odds of nine to two.
Finding the Value
While top honors among goal scorers in England are up for grabs, the fact remains thirty-one goals is a lot to redistribute in United. Not that there is a rule stating that those thirty-one goals has to be used, but there is a lot of critical touches that will be redistributed in United. My guess is that Rooney and Owen will get a lion’s share of those critical touches, with Owen finishing at a far higher ratio – however neither of which are worth the value the odds currently set forth.
Adebayor will be in top form having joined City along side Carlos Tevez. With a proven ability to find the back of the net in Arsenal, Adebayor provides the most value at five to one to lead the league in scoring. The fact that Torres, who had an equal amount of goals yet presents at even odds to lead the league in scoring speaks mountains to the value in the futures of Emmanuel Adebayor. For that reason, I back the newly acquired City winger to take down top honors among goal scorers in the Premiership.
Asian Handicapping Guide
If you enjoy betting on soccer then you have probably heard of the term Asian Handicap which simply refers to one of the types of bets you can make on the outcome of soccer games. This popular bet has grown around the world and there are now millions of people learning how to win money while betting on soccer. In order to understand what this bet is exactly you need to know what the handicap means.
Instead of offering a standard bet where you can pick one of the two teams to win or draw, bookmakers have begun also offering a bet with a handicap where it takes the draw out of the question for the most part. Let’s take a quick look at an example of a game using the Asian Handicap.
France +1.5 vs. Brazil -1.5
In the above example you can see that France has a (+1.5). The (+) sign means that the team is the underdog and they can lose by a certain amount of goals and you would still win. Brazil as you can see has the opposite sign (-) and this sign tells you that Brazil is the favourite in the game and they need to win by a certain amount of goals. In this example Brazil would need to win by 2 goals for you to win with Brazil. If you picked France then you would be able to lose by 1 goal and still win the bet because Brazil didn’t cover the handicap.
Canada +2 vs. Germany -2
In this example you can see that the handicap is a whole number instead of a decimal number. This means that there is a potential for the wager to be a tie and given back to you. If Germany wins the game by two goals then the bet would be a tie because of the handicap of -2. After subtracting the handicap of 2 in a 2-0 game you’d be left with a 0-0 game. If Germany only wins by 1 goal though then Canada would win the wager whereas if Germany wins by 3 goals they would win the wager.
These wagers have become so popular for many reasons, but one of the number one reasons why it has is simply due to the fact you can win/draw on the same bet. For instance, if you take an underdog team of +1 and they only lose by 1 you would get your money back. So in a close game it’s beneficial for you to bet on this team because most of the time you won’t see a close game with a goal margin of 2+.
With all of the soccer leagues around the world there are plenty of opportunities for you to find really close match-ups that have favourable handicaps. It does take a lot of time to research the games to bet on as you want to make sure you’re getting good value, but there are lots of forums online to help you out with that. You may also learn some excellent Asian Handicap betting systems by becoming active in some betting communities.
